Do you know the STORY you are being hired to tell?

The biggest mistake I see actors make when I am coaching them for an audition is not being able to identify how their character moves story forward. They make "interesting choices" to stand out or look at the dialogue and select random actions or generally choose an "essence" for the character. They miss the lily pads on the page. That's what I call the path the writer has put in the script for YOU.

Actors are hired to be STORYtellers. If you want to have a sustainable career, you gotta know how your character is supporting and moving story forward. Otherwise, you are just throwing darts in the dark.

And, yeah, you might get lucky and book a job like that. But getting the job and keeping the job are two different things. So let's sharpen up your SCRIPT ANALYSIS FOR AUDITIONS.

What We Will Cover in 3 Weeks

So, here’s the deal: In-depth script analysis when you book the job is different than breaking down a script for an audition. In-Depth script analysis can take weeks or months. You might actually be in the middle of shooting and still discover things in the script. That kind of work doesn’t help you with auditions. Especially now, when the turnaround times for self-tapes are getting shorter and shorter. You need to be able to make smart decisions quickly. This is where Action Analysis for auditions is KEY. Asking the RIGHT questions that keep you on the trajectory of the story and help you focus your homework.

This intimate class is designed to function like a salon. We will be learning from each other as I guide you through my process of breaking down audition sides.

Live Sessions will be held Wednesdays from 11a to 1p (PDT) on Zoom. First class is July 28, 2021. Sessions will be recorded for later viewing.

  • Prep For Class: Sides are released on July 23. Self-tapes are due July 26 @ 5pm PST

  • Week 1: July 28 - Live Session: Each tape is reviewed and each student will self-assess their current script analysis process. Tapes will receive feedback.

  • Week 2: August 4 - Live Session: Anna will talk about the different tools for script analysis and breakdown scripts with the class.

  • Week 3: August 11 - Live Session: Practice your newly acquired script analysis tools with NEW sides. Tapes will be reviewed.

Anna studied with acclaimed Meisner teacher, Maggie Flanigan in NYC. She received her MFA from the University of Washington where she TA'd for undergrad acting students and discovered her love of coaching. She was selected to participate in the Disney Discovers Showcase. She founded Put Me On Self-Tape in 2016 and coaches working actors on their self-tape and in-person auditions.
